Reflections on Digital Identities

I'm very grateful to have had the opportunity of joining a Citi Ventures Emerging Tech and Citi Fintech Panel on the future of digital identity a few months ago. Whether we like it or not, we all have a digital identity, and it is pretty much scattered across the Internet.

It is made up of all information that is digitally available that can be tied to a person (yes, that DOES include your tweets, your posts, your bank login credentials). Working towards defining a way to identify ourselves digitally (today and tomorrow) has become critical, especially now that our social interactions are increasingly online (and mobile). Almost 2 months after, I am still replaying what the speakers shared on their work and thoughts on the big picture view. After every login, I ask myself: how can we consolidate a digital identity that balances privacy, security and control issues, while providing an experience that serves to authenticate ourselves efficiently? I am looking forward to what is coming! The future is what we make it (and we can definitely do better!).

Samsa was a travelling salesman - and above it there hung a picture that he had recently cut out of an illustrated magazine and housed in a nice, gilded frame. It showed a lady fitted out with a fur hat and fur boa who sat upright, raising a heavy fur muff that covered the whole of her lower arm towards the viewer.

Gregor then turned to look out the window at the dull weather. Drops of rain could be heard hitting the pane, which made him feel quite sad. "How about if I sleep a little bit longer and forget all this nonsense", he thought

“First, we must ensure the validity of the approach. Second, we must confirm browser makers to add support for web fonts.”
